Letters, 1902-1904.

Transcribed correspondence between artist Arthur E. Becher and his fiance, Frieda Knappe, who writes from Milwaukee to Becher in Philadelphia, New York, and Wilmington, Delaware. Some letters discuss his ongoing work as an illustrator of books and magazines and his fine art painting although overall the letters reflect their escalating courtship. Becher was known for his landscapes, his depiction of historical scenes, including the major figures of the Civil War era, and his illustrations in notable editions of Poe's stories, children's books, and the "Trail of Grant & Lee".
